DETAILS

Join us for an inside look at the Milford Street Association Captive Insurance Company—an innovative, member-owned insurance model tailored specifically for New York's affordable rental housing. As liability insurance premiums continue to soar, threatening the sustainability of affordable housing in New York, stakeholders are looking for real solutions. In this session, we’ll dive into one of the most promising market-driven models: the Milford Street Association Affordable Housing Insurance Captive. Created by and for mission-driven affordable housing owners, this member-owned captive is designed to serve multifamily buildings with regulatory rent agreements and public financing. Its structure focuses on cost stabilization over profit, using tailored risk management and lean operations to bring down insurance costs. The captive’s creation is a critical step in preserving affordable housing options for New Yorkers, particularly in light of escalating insurance costs. In this session, founding member John Crotty along with Teddy Chung from Abbott Insurance Services will provide a comprehensive overview of the Milford Street Association Affordable Housing Insurance Program and answer your questions about its structure, benefits, and qualifications for participation.
